Lots of changes at Ridgeline TV...

image

Ridgeline TV has officially shut down its family-oriented streaming channel effective September 1st, 2022. The local channel began in 2010 and had been seen on channel 99 on Windstream Cable Television for 12 years until Windstream closed down its cable television operations in April of 2022. Ridgeline TV streamed on the internet but was unable to maintain appropriate viewership to continue local programs and production.

As our sister network Country Backroads TV is more national / regional in scope, we will continue to stream the channel in the interim. We are working towards offering Country Backroads TV to small broadcast stations as a digital sub-channel.

Weather services, software

Business-wise, Ridgeline TV also provides customized local weather forecasts to broadcast and cable TV channels as a monthly service. Locations currently served include the Chicago and San Francisco area. View sample forecast videos here

Additionally, Ridgeline TV has developed several custom software programs designed for small TV stations. Info Spot Creator can be used to create basic public service announcement video spots complete with AI-generated voiceover, graphics and music bed. The program can also create video spots for real estate ads or simple picture-based video ads.

Weather Conditions Audio / Video File Creator is another free program that can create an audio file of local conditions for radio stations and video for TV stations. On the TV side, a graphical national forecast video, textual local forecast video and national outlook forecast video can be created. More info here.

Crawl Creator is useful for creating and scheduling horizontal text crawls for MasterPlay automation systems or any system that uses text files for crawls. Election Results Creator can be used by TV stations to create graphical screens for election results.

Want free TV?? More than 70 live streaming channels added to ROKU lineup

With cable TV no longer available in the area, Ridgeline TV is making it easier for viewers to watch a slate of other streaming TV channels - and all for free! Over 70 free streaming TV channels have been added to our ROKU app, ranging from 24-hour news, weather, sports, hunting, outdoors, religious, movie and entertainment channels. Just like Ridgeline TV and Country Backroads TV, all streaming channels are provided for free.

The channel lineup is available through Ridgeline TV's free app for ROKU. ROKU is an inexpensive streaming device which connects your high speed internet service to your TV. Ridgeline TV's app for ROKU is free and can be added by searching ROKU's streaming channel store (instructions, right column on this page.)

Ridgeline TV's free ROKU app also allows viewers to watch past local programs, such as high school sports, local parades and concerts on demand (VOD).

Ridgeline TV to shut down streaming channel September 1st

image

Due to changes in the television viewing marketplace, Ridgeline TV has announced the closure of Ridgeline TV's streaming channel on Friday, September 1st, 2002.

Owner Jon C. Moon launched the community-oriented channel Sept. 1st, 2010, debuting on Windstream Cable Television channel 99. During the past 13 years, Ridgeline TV has provided local community programming, sporting events, concerts to viewers, along with classic movies, westerns and TV shows. The channel provided some live programming such as Union County Panther Football and Softball and the annual Battle of the States Christmas Tournament at Towns County High School.

"It has been fun and lots of work providing local coverage for the area," Moon said. "But with the closure of local cable television in the area and changing viewing habits, it's time to move on."

Moon noted that Ridgeline TV as a company will shift away from broadcasting but continue to provide live internet production and streaming of events to its various clients, including Young Harris College and Conference Carolina Sports Network.

Ridgeline TV also will continue to provide services to small television stations across the country. Moon pointed out that the company provides automated weather forecast video spots to several television operations, including stations in Chicago and San Franciso. Ridgeline TV also provides development of custom software for the small television market.

"I'd like to personally thank all the people who enjoyed watching Ridgeline TV, those who collaborated on local programming and, of course, our local advertisers," Moon added.

Local forecasts added

image Local weather forecasts for all areas in Ridgeline TV's coverage area have now been added to the channel. The icon-based forecasts appear periodically at the bottom of your TV screen along with current weather conditions throughout Northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina. The forecasts will be integrated into this website in the future.

Current weather conditions
added, forecasts coming soon

image With the recent expansion to more areas of Northeast Georgia, Ridgeline TV Channel 99 is updating how local weather is presented on the channel. A redesign of the channel's multi-zone layout has added local weather conditions from a number of cities to the "headline zone" along the bottom of the screen.

Current weather conditions for Andrews NC, Young Harris, Gainesville, Cornelia, Toccoa, Jefferson and Athens GA rotate through about once every five minutes. The current conditions come from airports at those locations via the National Weather Service (NWS). The exception is Young Harris, which is recorded from a weather station at the TV station.

image Ridgeline TV has expanded viewing options by adding a local programming channel viewable on TVs through inexpensive ROKU streaming devices. The addition will allow TV viewers to watch Ridgeline TV live 24-hours a day regardless of whether they subscribe to cable TV or not.

The new app will also allow viewers to watch local programs on-demand at their convenience. Programs available include, for example, concerts, parades, recent Union County High School football games, Young Harris College Mountain Lions NCAA Division II Basketball games and more. Newer programs, such as Mountain Lions Basketball, are available in HD.

"Many people I run into express an interest in the local programming on Ridgeline TV, but are unable to have cable TV," station owner Jon C. Moon pointed out. "Our ROKU channel will allow those viewers to utilize their high speed broadband and the affordable ROKU streaming devices to tune in."

ROKU streaming devices have gained popularity by providing access to streaming services such as NETFLIX, Hulu, Amazon Video, Vudu and others. The devices cost as low as $29.99. An estimated 20 million ROKU streaming devices are in use, according to a 2015 report by Strategy Analytics.

In addition to the live streaming channel and local programming on-demand, a new country music video channel is also available. The channel - called COUNTRY BACKROADS - simulates a live TV channel in that a continuous loop of music videos plays nonstop. Viewers will have to ability to pause playback or jump ahead to the next video.
