BETA VERSION OF THE PROGRAM - THE PROGRAM IS IN DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE
**********************************************************************************************************
Weather Conditions Audio / Video File Info Creator is a free program for radio and television stations to automate downloads of current weather conditions and create that data into a playable, human-sounding audio file and video file. To download the beta version, use the link below. Please provide feedback on what improvements or changes would make the program better. Thanks!
The program now can also create a video file of your area weather forecast, though forecasts are textual onscreen and not verbalized. A graphical national weather forecast is also created along with a national outlook forecast. (version 1.1.0).
To install, download the zip file, right click and select extract all, select where you want to save the project to (your desktop, for example). There is no installer like other programs. In the resulting TEMPERATURES 1.1.0 folder, you should see the TEMPERATURES 1.1.0 icon (blue file folder). Double click this to start the program. Note that the program might pop up a small "enter user name box" - sometimes this shows under other windows you might have open and you might think the program is not responding. (You can hold down the ALT key and click the TAB key to cycle through your open windows.)
When the program opens, click the PREFERENCES button. A default location to save files is set to the program location and the /audio folder. However, if you want to save your files elsewhere on your computer or shared drives, click SET CUSTOM SAVE FOLDER and navigate to your preferred folder location. **Currently, this custom location is only for audio files, not video files. This issue will be worked on in future versions.**
You have the option to set whether to create a video file of your conditions and forecasts, the background to use, and whether to encode the video file as H.264 or MPEG-2. The program supports weather measurements in METRIC system for those stations in Canada or Mexico (though Spanish / French language is not an option at this time.)
Now, click SET STATION. Clicking SELECT WEATHER STATION will bring you to a screen where you can find your local weather station. You can use the pull down menus to search by country or state. When you locate your preferred station, clicking on it will bring you back to the CONDITIONS page. You can get conditions for more than one area (2 stations should be set already.) Use the <<< >>> buttons to navigate between your stations. Use the NEW ENTRY button to create a new station.
**Note that the RELOAD button next to SELECT WEATHER STATION does not work properly at this time. NWS has moved their master list of stations online and that link is broken.**
To test, click the CONDITIONS button. Now Click CREATE. If everything is working, you should see the weather conditions displayed (also, a series of black icons will show in your taskbar, this is FFMPEG doing its work.) After waiting about 45 seconds per location, click the OPEN FOLDER button to preview in your default media player.
Now, go back to PREFERENCES and set your link for local weather forecasts. You will need to go to www.weather.gov and enter your zip code for your area and click GO. On the resulting page, scroll down below the forecast area map and copy the XML link (right click, copy link). Go back to the program and paste this link into WEB LINK TO NWS XML field.
Now, set the UPLOAD INTERVAL and click UPDATE ON. The National Weather Service recommends hourly pickup of data. You can go to the MAIN MENU and you will see UPDATE ON in red. Note that you can manually build all files by using the SCRIPTS menu and RUN ALL. Do note that it takes about 3 minutes or so to create all files. Step away from the program and do not navigate to other screens as this could cause errors.
The background for the video files can be changed by selecting one of 14 backgrounds in the PREFERENCES menu. You can view those backgrounds in the /audio/elements/backgrounds folder. You can use your own custom image (1280x720 px .png) by removing one of the included graphic files and applying the same name. Also, a station logo may be selected to be applied on the created video files by using the SET LOGO button. You may also change the text for the end screen sponsor here.
Another feature allows you to set a location where you can FTP the files by clicking SETUP FTP. This is handy for uploading your files to your station website.
Note that this is a BETA version of the program and is still in development. There may be bugs in the program, particularly if your internet service is interrupted. I will be working on improvements as we go along.
